Nanda Devi Temple – Temples in Almora

Nanda Devi Temple is the most important temple in Almora. Mata Nanda Devi is the patron goddess here. The temple of Nanda Devi is very old and is a major attraction of the town of Almora. The sculptures are very attarctive.Nanda Devi is a popular pilgrimage spot in Uttarakhand.Nanda Devi Temple is one of the important temples of Almora dating back to over 1000 years. The temple is devoted to goddess Nanda Devi, the fan goddess of the Chand dynasty. Located within the foyer of a Shiva Temple, Nanda Devi Temple holds bottomless faith of lots of people from this area.

Positioned in Almora district, the temple is the seat of a divinity who is worshipped as the daughter of Kumauni people. The patron goddess of the Chand dynasty, the divinity is believed to be the savior of the residents of Kumaon with other parts of Uttarakhand. Biggest attraction of the temple is Nanda Devi Raj Jat (Yatra) that is held once in 12 years. During this festival the divinity in the form a sheep is decorated with different jeweler and along with food and clothing she is sent to her other home at Trishul Peak followed by a majestic procession.

Best time to visit Nanda Devi Temple and Almora is from March to June and again from September to November,remains open on all days from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
